1- You are in the lunch room at witness a small grade 6 student coughing and starting to show signs of stress. As you approach her she stops coughing and has hands on her throat.... explain the steps that you should take to provide care for her.
- Obtain consent to help her.
- With one feet in front and the other behind her body, bend her over and give 5 back blows.
- Straighten her back then find belly button and given abdominal thrusts right above belly button.
2 - As you are giving care she collapses and is unconscious. What do you do now?
- Gently lie her down on the floor, supporting her neck.
- Call local EMS.
- Check and remove any dislodged object in her mouth/throat.
- Give two rescue breaths before beginning modified CPR, which is CPR cycle with checking for dislodged object in between each cycle.
3- Name 5 signals of a possible breathing emergency.
- Choking
- Wheezing
- Throat squeezing
- Panic
- Sudden loss of talking
4 - What do you do if person does not give you consent to care for an unconscious infant.
- Call local EMS.
- Guide the infant's guardian on how to care for the infant until EMS arrives.
